wilder364By Tony Crooks: When I first watched undefeated heavyweight contender Deontay Wilder (28-0, 28 KO’s), I thought, here is another fighter that has a padded out record fighting people that are not capable of defending themselves.

I recently viewed as many fights of Wilders that I could find. Yes, the opposition was not the best that boxing has to offer, but having said that, he has a very special talent which I have never seen in a boxer in my life.

Boxers work off the jab to set up the right hand, right uppercut or right cross, visa versa if you are a southpaw.

I hear lots of people saying that he has not been tested, he has fought bums and as soon as he steps up he will get beat. What I am about to tell you is either brilliance, natural talent or the uncanny ability to judge distance perfectly.

Watch Wilder’s fights, and then watch how he throws his left jab. It appears that he falls short of the target by about three inches. What you don’t see is that as he throws the left jab he turns his wrist inwards and at a 45 degree angle.

The punch lands slightly short but the opponent is partially blinded for a short second by the angle of his left boxing glove. In a split second Wilder throws his big right hand bomb which knocks out the opponent.

The first thought that came to mind was that Wilder has no left jab, but looking at it over and over again in slow motion, it has to be something that he has practiced.

Don’t take my word for it, check it out for yourselves. Now, here is the question: if he has the ability to be able to judge distance that accurately and blind an opponent in a split second, how will anyone be able to cope with him? There are many permutations, like if he gets hit, how will he react?

Something tells me that this guy could go all the way. Although I am English and would like to see my own countrymen become champions something tells me that Wilder may be unstoppable.

Let me hear your thoughts, and keep it boxing related!
