darchinyan4334By Jim Dower: #3 WBC 122 lb. contender Vic Darchinyan (39-5-1, 28 KO’s) potentially put himself in position for a world title shot tonight in beating Javier Gallo (18-7-1, 10 KO’s) in an easy fourth round knockout at the Uni-Trade Stadium, in Laredo, Texas, USA.

Darchinyan, 37 knocked Gallo down four times in the fight, 3 times in the 2nd round, and a final time in the 4th round. The fight was halted at 0.26 of the fourth round.

It’s good that Darchinyan won the fight, but he was stunned once in the fight by the little known Gallo and that’s not a good sign for Darchinyan with him wanting to get a title shot against WBC super bantamweight champion Victor Terrazas.

Whether Darchinyan gets the title shot or not will be up to his promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank, who has plans for Nonito Donaire to possibly face Terrazas next instead of Darchinyan.

Donaire isn’t ranked in the top 15 by the WBC unlike Darchinyan, who has a #3 ranking. That doesn’t matter though. If Arum wants Donaire to take the fight with Terrazas then it’ll be him that gets it and not Darchinyan.

Also on the card, undefeated super featherweight Oscar Valdez (5-0, 4 KO’s) stopped Rocco Espinoza (4-7) in the 1st round. Espinosa hit the canvas three times before the fight was finally halted.

Other fight results on the card:

Radames Montes draw 4 Martinez Porter
Adam Lopez UD 4 Manuel Rubalcava
Rolando Garza UD 4 Roberto Lara
