Bellew defeats Chilemba in ugly fight

By Scott Gilfoid: WBC Silver light heavyweight champion Tony Bellew (20-1-1, 12 KO’s) won an ugly 12 round unanimous decision over Isaac Chilemba (20-2-1, 9 KO’s) tonight at the O2 Arena in London, UK. Judges scores: 116-112, 117-112 and 116-112.

The fight was almost identical to the first fight with Bellew controlling the action in the first five rounds, and then Chilemba taking charge in the second half over a tired, constantly clinching and constantly missing Bellew.

Bellew spent most of the fight smothering Chilemba by getting in close and just leaning and holding and fighting ugly. I don’t know why Bellew did that because he can’t fight worth a lick on the inside and was just holding on liked a tired fighter. It was just so ugly to watch.

Chilemba boxed beautifully from the 7th round on, making Bellew miss over and over again. The problem was Chilemba gave away too many early rounds by trying to slug with Bellew instead of doing what he did last time they fought by sticking to his boxing and counter punching.

I can’t remember seeing a fight with so much clinching in it. The referee let Bellew get away with a lot of the holding and wrestling and he should have taken points off at some point.

Showing his class after the fight, Bellew muttered “All you people who doubted me on twitter, stick it up your ass.”

It was so sad to see Bellew looking so bitter afterwards when he should have been happy. Instead, he seemed like an unhappy camper.

Bellew’s promoter Eddie Hearn said that Bellew is now the mandatory challenger for WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson. So we’ll be seeing those two guys fighting if Dawson gets past Adonis Stevenson next month. That’s a bad match-up for Bellew because Dawson doesn’t let guys clinch and wrestle him, so I’m not sure what Bellew is going to do in that one. Dawson isn’t easy to hit and he’s impossible to clinch because of his good foot movement.
