Angel Garcia says he wouldn’t stoop to the levels of Ruben Guerrero in trash talking Mayweather

Ruben Guerrero(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Dan Ambrose: Angel Garcia, the father of WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia, says he wouldn’t step into the personal life of Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the way that Robert “The Ghost’ Guerrero’s father Ruben Guerrero has recently in calling Mayweather a “Woman beater” over and over again. Angel says he sticks to talking about boxing when he’s going after a fighter to trash talk.

Speaking with RingTV, Angel said “When I talk, I talk about boxing, like what you did in your career. That’s what I talk about. In haven’t seen what [Ruben Guerrero said about Mayweather], but that don’t have nothing to do with boxing. That’s his personal life…that ain’t got nothing to do with boxing.”

Angel is right. He does seem to focus on trash talking his son’s opponents about their boxing skills, their chin and the fact that he thinks they don’t have the talent to compete with his son. Angel doesn’t look for something in his opponents past that took place outside of the ring to go after them.

With Danny’s recent opponent Zab Judah, Angel’s main theme was that Judah had failed each time he had stepped up to the plate, and how his best days are well in the past. With Amir Khan, Angel said that he had never seen a Pakistani that could fight. Again, it was Angel making an opinion about boxing, not Khan or Judah’s personal life. I’m sure that if Angel had wanted to, he could have gone into something from their personal life to try and irritate them, but he didn’t do that. He focused on boxing.

It’s hard to understand why Ruben has chosen to use the angle that he has with Mayweather when he’s not really saying anything about how this would affect what happens on Saturday. Calling Mayweather a “Women beater” doesn’t give you a prediction of what will happen on Saturday. I know Ruben has been refereeing to Robert as “A real man,” but that still doesn’t tell you anything.

Ruben’s not giving any incite of what’s going to happen on Saturday other than the fact that he thinks Mayweather is a woman beater. It seems almost childish in a way because he’s name calling without being provoked and without talking about the actual fight.
