140, 147 and 154 divisions the new Pacquiao

matthysse564By Robert “Big Moe” Elmore: Floyd doesn’t call fighters out anymore. He doesn’t need to. They call him out. And so far, boxers from 140 to 154 have been calling him out from a fight. Before Manny Pacquiao was knocked out by Juan Manuel Marquez, he was the only one that could seemingly beat undefeated pound for pound champ Floyd Mayweather.

This had come on the heels of him beating Oscar De La Hoya and Ricky Hatton; both of whom lost to Floyd first. But now that Pac has been knocked out, the media has removed that “he can beat Mayweather” mantle and have cast it on the 140; 147, and 154 pound divisions. Saul Canelo Alvarez is the most lucrative fight out their financially.

Competitively, this fight is a total mismatch. The weight is not an issue for me because weight does not win fights; skills do. Plus Floyd has always been outweighed except for the Marquez fight. Canelo fight against Trout was an improvement, but he still lacks too many things to compete with Floyd. Saul’s stamina and punch output will be his down fall.

According to Ben Thompson at fighthype.com, Saul is looking for a new strength and conditioning coach. This is good, but 4 months is not enough time to prepare for 17 year pro like Floyd. And you can’t teach punch output. Fighting half the rounds won’t get it done against Floyd. Some fans claim that once Mayweather gets a taste of Canelo’s power, then Floyd will fold.

First off, Floyd is not easy to hit. His defense is second to none. Two, Floyd won’t stand in front of Alvarez while pounds away. That would be plain stupid. One win against, against one legitimate fighter does not make Saul the best at 154. Just look at his resume. He has long way to go.

Danny Garcia, Amir Khan, Devon Alexander, and now Lucas Matthysee’s name has been thrown into the mix. Lucas is a good kid and packs a good punch. But claiming that he’s ready for Floyd is just plum crazy. These fighters call out Floyd to bring attention to themselves.

Devon did it; Danny did it, and now Lucas. All I can say to these fighters is be careful what you ask for. But either way the fans, while they are screaming all these fighters can beat Floyd for one reason or another, will be the same ones making excuses should Floyd win.

If he wins, then it’s going to be “Floyd is a cherry picker and he (the fighter he beat) will be a bum. But remember, these fighters are calling him out. But if Floyd looses, then every blog and website will be cheering and saying Floyd lost to somebody he had no business losing to.

To the critics of Floyd, he has only 5 more fights before he hangs up the gloves. You have 5 mantles to cast upon a fighter who you think can beat Floyd. Use them wisely.
