Why Haye-Charr is actually a good thing

charr3222By Dallas: With it now clear that David Haye’s opponent for his June 29th comeback will be Manuel Charr certain quarters were immediately rolling their eyes claiming that Haye had opted for an easy opponent and that this would not make for an interesting fight. I would disagree with this sentiment.

For starters, this will be a good fight to promote and is almost the perfect bout for the Haymaker’s return. The British boxing fans are already aware of who Charr is thanks to his ‘invasion’ of Haye/ Chisora post-fight press conference, Charr seemed to handle himself well and also seemed to know what he wanted. Haye might have seemed to have been dismissive of Charr at that moment but he did make an impact.

I don’t know how many people actually saw his fight against Vitali but those who did will remember him being stopped on cuts and the theatrics that he pulled after the stoppage with his entire face and large part of torso covered in blood, these were the kind of images which will help in being marketed him as a real warrior… and he has already bounced back from that defeat with a couple of wins, albeit they were not wins against top tier competition but his career is back on track making this fight very marketable…

And that the keyword behind making this fight, this is going to be an easily marketable fight for Haye and one which would get enough eyeballs not only in UK but also in Germany and that is what is Haye’s end-game it seems, to force a fight between himself and one of the Klitschkos and this fight is going to be the first step in that direction.

Insofar as the in ring matters, this match-up again works for Haye as he should be able to take care of Charr. So to me, this fight works on every level. As a fan of the Haymaker I am glad that he picked an opponent that gives him scope so that he could promote his fight well and yet one that should not give him any conceivable trouble in the actual fight and trust me, coming back from a rather long break this this is the best fight that Haye and his team could have gotten together.
