Tyson Fury to iron out mistakes against Pulev

fury14By Daniel Mcglinchey: Undefeated giant Tyson Fury (21-0, 15 KO’s) is currently in negotiations with Kubrat Pulev (17-0, 9 KO’s) for a show down that will hopefully take place in the summer.

Fury put in a poor performance recently against former 2 time world cruiserweight champion Steve Cunningham. Fury seemed to want to please the crowd by brawling rather than show case his boxing skills. He still knocked Steve out but it wasn’t the Tyson we are used to. Anyone who watched Tyson Fury’s match-up’s with his previous 3 opponents Martin Rogan, Vinny Maddalone and Kevin Johnson know that Tyson Fury is a far better boxer than he showed against Steve Cunningham, possibly due to the absence of his Uncle/Trainer Peter Fury who has transformed his career since taking over 15 months ago (4 months before the Martin Rogan fight.)

Kubrat Pulev is an undefeated Bulgarian who is considered by many as the next big thing in Heavyweight boxing. His fearless approach, sound amateur pedigree, destruction of strong contenders and unblemished professional record is admired by many and it’s very understandable why he is ranked 3rd best Heavyweight in the world below the Klitschko brothers.

Peter Fury made the following comments- “Tyson is a much better boxer than he showed on Saturday. We are looking for Pulev in July and although Saturday was very frustrating at times, we will put a lot of those mistakes right for then. Tyson is a fighting man and that spirit can sometimes take over. If I was there on Saturday, I can guarantee he wouldn’t have made the same mistakes.”

This fight many will see as a mismatch with Kubrat Pulev being the strong favourite. However, I don’t see it panning out that way if it does materialize and Tyson fights with his head rather than his heart, controls the ring, keeps his hands high and throws those crisp combinations that are so rare in the Heavyweight division. I see Team Fury causing an upset.

After recent prospects have let Britain down such as David Price (getting embarrassed and knocked out by Tony Thompson) and David Haye (doing very little since being schooled by Wladimir Klitschko), Tyson Fury is the British hope. Many won’t agree with this statement but I see Tyson Fury beating Kubrat Pulev by a unanimous decision.
