By Scott Gilfoid: Undefeated heavyweight contender Tyson Fury (20-0, 14 KO’s) appears to have slimmed down a lot in his latest training camp to get ready for his April 20th fight against former IBF cruiserweight champion Steve Cunningham (25-5, 12 KO’s) at the Madison Square Garden Theater, in New York, New York, USA.

The odd thing is Fury looks slower than he was previous. Taking the blubber off his normally flabby looking midsection should have led to Fury getting faster, but in this case he looks slower and weaker judging by his recent workout with his trainer.

It also looked like Fury was getting gassed a little just in throwing shots at his trainer’s mitts for a minute or two. The power dropped off and you could see Fury breathing harder. I can only imagine what it’ll be like when he has the quicker, smaller and arguably much better conditioned Cunningham in the ring with him on April 20th.

If you look at Fury throwing punches in his workout, as well as in his fights, he gives up his height readily by standing too close. In other words, the 6’9” Fury’s seven inch height advantage and three inch reach advantage over the 6’2” Cunningham will virtually be useless for him. What’s interesting is that Fury much taller than Cunningham, yet his reach is only three inches longer.

So what this means is Fury doesn’t have any advantage in this fight because his reach is just a little bit longer, yet he gives it up by standing close to his opponents. Fury doesn’t have any power, so his 40 pound weight advantage will be meaningless. Cunningham is faster, and probably the stronger puncher of the two, and he also has a better jab than Fury.

I think we may have a David vs. Goliath type fight on our hands on April 20th with Cunningham pulling off a huge upset. The fight won’t he held in the UK, so if Cunningham does actually beat Fury, there won’t be any hometown issues where we see some messed up scoring of the fight. Cunningham can really win this fight and I’m giving him a great chance.
