Audley Harrison was fighting two men in the ring

audley99By Mark Calooke: No one expected Audley Harrison to win tonight. The fight was a mismatch and a farce. But Audley didn’t deserve the injustice he received. Harrison should have retired long ago and nothing has changed there. fans know what to expect from Harrison and it is nothing good.

After just one minute of the first round, Wilder landed a cracking right hand. Harrison was hurt but was smart enough to take a knee. Wilder then lunged in with several wild and sloppy hooks. It wasn’t his fault because he was over excited. But nowhere in boxing does it say that it is legal to hit someone whilst they are on the floor. The ref saw Harrison take a knee and should have given him a standing 8 count. Instead he let Wilder hit Harrison several times.

Julio Diaz looking to smash Khan tonight

khan222By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan’s career is on the brink of failure with him having lost two out of his last three fights. He admits it himself that he can’t afford to lose tonight against Julio Diaz (40-7-1, 29 KO’s) in their catch-weight fight at 143 pounds in the UK.

With Golden Boy Promotions matching Khan against the 2nd tier fighter Julio Diaz tonight, it’s pretty much curtains for Khan if he loses this fight. I mean, they’ve dipped down in the rankings to the 2nd tier just to find someone that they think Khan can beat that is recognizable to the older boxing fans who remember Diaz many years ago. But if Khan can’t even beat this guy then he really needs to pack it in and look for another line of work because that’ll be a clear sign that Khan doesn’t have a place at the top.

Tony Averlant, JŸrgen BrŠhmer(Picture: Photo Wende) By Jim Dower: In a bad mismatch, EBU light heavyweight champion Juergen Braehmer (40-2, 31 KO’s) destroyed journeyman challenger Tony Averlant (18-8-2, 4 KO’s) in a 2nd round knockout on Saturday night at the Sporthalle, Alsterdorf, in Hamburg, Germany. The 34-year-old Braehmer tagged Averlant with a hard left to the body in the 2nd round that sent him down on the canvas.

Although Averlant made it back to his feet, referee Howard John Foster halted the fight anyway at 2:36. It’s a good thing the referee did stop the fight because as soon as he waived the fight off, Averlant sunk back down on the canvas on his own and continued to clutch at his midsection while grimacing in pain.

Audley says he’s going to take Deontay into the later rounds of the fight to take advantage of the fact that he’s never been past the 4th round to try and wear him down. Sounds like a plan put together without much thought.

Audley said “Deontay has never been in the later rounds, and it’s my job to take him there. My mojo is back.”

Harrison v Wilder tonight in Sheffield

wilder5By Stevie Ocallaghan: Tonight at the Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield , UK unbeaten US heavyweight Deontay Wilder steps up the level of competition he has faced in taking on 2 time Prizefighter winner in Audley Harrison.

This fight throws up some comparisons between another fight recently between Liverpool’s David Price and American Tony Thompson. Both Harrison and Thompson are 41 years old and both, I suppose you could say are fights that were made to give the young gun a little more trouble than they’ve had yet but not to much trouble.

The Marquez-Bradley fight In September is actually good for Pacquiao

jmm_ko_pacBy Miguel Alejandro Lopez: Many of those in Team Pacquiao, as well as those in the eight division world champion’s fan base, think that their hero is “sidelined” by Juan Manuel Marquez and Timothy Bradley when they decided to fight each other instead of the Filipino star.

At first glance, this may seem like an indication that Pacquiao is now on the outside looking in, while his past conquerors are now playing in his former kingdom. That’s the general impression, but there are many reasons to believe that the fight between El Dinamita and Desert Storm is actually good for Pacquiao. Here’s why:
