The Importance of a Good Chin and Fight Experience in the Modern Era of Boxing

khan43By Craig Hilton: To stay at the top in boxing you’ve got to be able to give as well as you get. The modern era of boxing is becoming increasingly scientific; boxers are able to inflate by twenty pounds following their weigh-in.

Therefore, if you’re fighting at Welterweight these days, you need to able to take the shot of a full blown middleweight in order to retain your position among the world’s elite.

As a British boxing fan, I’m aware of recent sparring between Light-Heavyweight, Nathan Cleverley, and Heavyweight, Tyson Fury.

Sergio Martinez suffers fractured left hand; will miss the remainder of 2013

martinez43By Allan Fox: WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (51-2-2, 28 KO’s) really paid the price for his 12 round unanimous decision victory over Britain’s Martin Murray (25-1-1, 11 KO’s) from last Saturday night in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Martinez broke his left hand in the 2nd round of that fight, and re-injured his right knee, which he had torn in his last fight against former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. last September.

Martinez had surgery on the knee to repair torn cartilage, but he reportedly didn’t rehab it enough because he was having problems with the knee from the 2nd week of training camp for the Murray fight.

Deontay Wilder: I’ll come back to the UK when Fury or David Price agree to fight me

wilder7By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten heavyweight Deontay Wilder (28-0, 28 KO’s) liked his visit to the UK last Saturday night in destroying British heavyweight Audley Harrison by a 1st round TKO in Sheffield, UK. Deontay liked the local Brits and he says he wants to come back to the UK when/if Tyson Fury and or David Price agree to fight him in the future.

Deontay’s promoter Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions has already made the offer to Fury and Price to fight Deontay last Saturday night at the post-fight press conference, but there’s been a strange quiet from the two tall Brits ever since.

Anthony Dirrell vs. Don Mouton this Friday, May 3rd in Las Vegas, Nevada

dirrell23134By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten super middleweight Anthony Dirrell (24-0, 21 KO’s) will be facing the capable Don Mouton (12-6-1, 6 KO’s) in a scheduled 8 round bout at the Cosmopolitan Resort, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

Dirrell, 28, hasn’t fought in over a year since his 4th round stoppage win over Renan St. Juste in a WBC super middleweight title eliminator in December, 2011. Last year in May, Dirrell suffered a broken leg and hand in a motorcycle accident.

The tragedy of all this was that Dirrell was going to be fighting for the WBC 168 lb. strap against Nikola Sjekloca in a fight that was scheduled for July. Dirrell would have mopped the deck with Sjekloca had that fight taken place and that’s just too bad because it was such an easy fight.

Mayweather vs. Guerrero fight still not sold out for MGM Grand

Floyd MayweatherBy Allan Fox: For some reason boxing fans haven’t scooped up the tickets for this Saturday’s fight between WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) and Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The fight still isn’t sold out for the 16,800 seat MGM Grand, and that makes you wonder if Mayweather is losing his ticket selling magic. It obviously doesn’t help Mayweather one bit that he selected an opponent in Guerrero who doesn’t have a big fan base.

YouTube video
By Allan Fox: WBC featherweight champion Daniel Ponce De Leon (44-4, 35 KO’s) will be making his first defense of his tile this Saturday night against former two division world champion Abner Mares (25-0-1, 13 KO’s) in a Showtime/CBS pay-per-view bout at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This fight is going to be a real test for both fighters because each of them has a lot to prove. De Leon, 32, needs to prove that he can beat the elite fighters in the sport because he’s failed in the past in defeats against Juan Manuel Lopez, Adrien Broner and Yuriorkis Gamboa.

Judah wants Mayweather-Guerrero winner and/or Garcia rematch

judah43By Eric Thomas: Zab Judah (42-8, 29 KO’s) isn’t discouraged at all about getting beaten by WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (26-0, 16 KO’s) by a 12 round unanimous decision last Saturday night in New York.

Judah reportedly wants to fight the winner of this Saturday’s fight between Floyd Mayweather and Robert “The Ghost’ Guerrero. Judah has lost two out of his last three fights, and that would make it kind of a tough sell to have him fighting the winner of the Mayweather-Guerrero fight.

The King Returns: Mayweather vs. Guerrero on May 4th in Las Vegas

floyd10by Joe Walker: This weekend we see the return of Floyd Mayweather after 12 months out and 63 days in jail. As normal there is massive interest in the fight between Floyd and his opponent Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero.

The build up has been the same as any other fight with both camps claiming there intent to win, and all the other talk that goes with build ups.

Guerrero is saying it his job to humble Mayweather before God and everyone else. Mayweather is calling Guerrero a hypocrite because of his beliefs in the light of his gun charge.
