By Dan Ambrose: Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) had a birthday piñata created with the face of his May 4th opponent Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) for the 30th birthday of the former two division world champion Guerrero for their Showtime pay-per-view televised fight.

The piñata was the target for Guerrero’s children to smack around for amusement. I imagine Guerrero is hoping his fight against the real thing on May 4th will be just as easy, but it’s not likely to happen. In this case the real Mayweather hits back and is lightning fast and the much better skilled fighter.

The main problem that Guerrero has in this fight is he has no real frame of reference to get him ready for what he’s going to be dealing with next month against Mayweather. The closest thing that Guerrero has faced that’s anything like Mayweather is Andre Berto and he’s not even close to being as good as Mayweather.

The rest of the guys that Guerrero has faced during his career are nothing like Mayweather. Guerrero has faced mostly come forward types like Selcuk Aydin, Michael Katsidis, Roberto David Arrieta and Vincente Escobedo and these guys aren’t like Mayweather.

Sometimes fighters are able to do well without having prior experience against certain types of fighters, but in this case I think it really hurts Guerrero’s chances of beating Mayweather in that he’s not had an opponent with the same kinds of skills.

If Guerrero had fought someone like Adrien Broner or Zab Juday, I think he would have at least the beginnings of the knowledge of what he’s going to be facing on May 4th against the unbeaten Floyd, but he doesn’t have that.

Guerrero is going to predictable in what he’s going to attempt to do in the ring in that fight and he’s not even being shy about what he plans on doing. Guerrero says it himself that he’s going to put pressure on Mayweather and keep the pressure on him all fight long. Guerrero says he’s going to throw a lot of punches as well. In other words, Guerrero is going to do what he always does and hope that this one-size fits all approach will work against Mayweather. It won’t.
