Mayweather Jr. vs. Guerrero: Will you watch Floyd fight again after he loses his unbeaten record?

Floyd Mayweather(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Gerardo Granados: The WBA Super World light middleweight and WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) currently is the best defensive fighter of all, he is also an outstanding counter puncher but it is his personality that sets him apart from the rest of current boxing stars.

Sometimes he speaks up his mind without thinking of the consequences and there are many boxing fans who watch him fight hoping he will lose his precious unbeaten record instead of supporting him wishing he will keep on winning forever.

Floyd will have his first bout out of a millionaire six fight deal with Showtime. To think that he will lose against Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) isn’t very smart, but inside the ring there is no small enemy and the “Ghost” is really hungry, motivated and determined to win. Guerrero may not have the right tools to defeat Mayweather Jr. and the betting odds clearly show it.

Robert must win convincingly because if the fight is close he will not get the decision. A knock out is highly improbable because the Ghost doesn´t have impressive punching power but he has enough to hurt Floyd to swell or cut him and stop him on the late rounds. The only problem is that for doing so Guerrero has to connect Mayweather Jr., who is a real ghost when his opponents try to connect with a solid punch.

I asked my friend if he was going to watch the fight. He responded with a question “is this a good fight to watch?” I said: yes it has the potential to be a great one. Just as I stop speaking he said to me “hey, that is exactly what you said when we saw the Donaire vs. Rigondeaux fight!” Well, we will end up buying an extra keg of beer and an extra eight pounds of meat; you know just in case.

Defensive boxing style is fun to watch but it is no match for a fan friendly boxing style fight. Floyd became a huge draw after he defeated the pay per view monster Oscar De la Hoya, but if Mayweather Jr. was to lose will he keep his great television ratings?

It is a fact that there are boxing fans who watch Floyd fight hoping he will lose. My friend watched Oscar Dela Hoya for the same reason and after the Golden Boy lost to Felix “Tito” Trinidad he lost any interest to watch him fight again.

Is it possible for a determined fighter to be able to achieve what forty three were not able to? I´m not betting against Floyd on this one. I know he is way more skilled than Robert, but at 36 years of age and 17 years as a prize fighter “Money” might not be able to perform as he used to.

For sure the reader must have placed his bet yet; but will you keep on watching Floyd even if he loses his next fight?
