pulev5By Scott Gilfoid: David Haye (26-2, 24 KO’s) said recently that he wants to take on an unbeaten top 10 contender for his next fight on June 29th at the Manchester Arena. We’ve since heard that Haye’s management has contacted unbeaten Polish fringe contender Andrzej Wawrzyk (27-0, 13 KO’s) to be his next opponent for this fight date.

Kubrat Pulev (17-0, 9 KO’s) is very interested in facing Haye on June 29th, and I think he’s a much, much better fighter than Wawrzyk. Pulev has volunteered to take the fight and will likely have no problems with coming to the UK to face Haye in front of his British fans.

So will Haye take this fight and show that he’s for real or will he take the weaker path and avoid Pulev like the plague. I think I already know the answer to this question. I can’t see Haye ever fighting Pulev ever for the remainder of his career because Pulev is just too dangerous and too big at 6’4 ½” for the 6’2” Haye.

Pulev said to boxingbet.pl “We have been in talks with David Haye about the June 29 fight…Haye is a very good fighter, but I don’t think he’s better than me. I don’t care where the fight takes place.”

So there it is. Pulev has put it out there that he’ll gladly step in and face Haye on June 29th in the UK, and he’s got a #1 ranking by the World Boxing Organization, and a win over him would earn Haye a lot of respect from the boxing community.

Fringe heavyweight contender Manuel Charr is also interested in facing Haye, but I don’t see a victory over him or Wawrzyk doing much to impress boxing fans because these are opponents that a step down from Haye’s last fight against Dereck Chisora.

I think Chisora would knock Charr and Wawrzyk out within four rounds on the same night, I really do. Wawrzyk he’s just there to be hit and his resume is totally inflated with 2nd and 3rd tier opposition. We already saw what happened with Charr when he stepped it up and fought WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko last year with Charr getting torn apart and stopped in four one-sided rounds.
