Khan vs. Diaz: Don’t be surprised if Amir gets knocked out again

khan45By Scott Gilfoid: Golden Boy Promotions has done their homework in digging up 33-year-old Julio Diaz to face Amir Khan (27-3, 19 KO’s) this month on April 27th the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield, UK. Golden Boy doesn’t want Khan to be knocked out again, so they’re in the rebuilding stage with him putting him in with guys with little power or who are too old to beat him like Diaz.

However, even in this case I wouldn’t at all be surprised if Khan gets knocked out because Diaz does have a little bit of power going for him and he’s a lot more skilled than Khan’s last opponent that Golden Boy dug up for Khan in Carlos Molina.

Khan is going to have to be careful in this fight. The last time Khan was in action against the light hitting Molina, Khan was getting hit plenty by Molina in the fight. The only reason why Khan wasn’t knocked out like he was against Danny Garcia is because Molina didn’t have the power to KO him. Diaz has better power than Molina, although not as much as Garcia.

If Khan gets a little too brave against Diaz we could see Khan getting knocked cold.

This will be Khan’s first fight in the UK since his mismatch against Paul McCloskey back in 2010, so Khan is going to want to look impressive in this fight in order to show off in front of his loyal British fans. That’s the problem.

Khan is going to be fighting with too much courage and that could lead to disastrous results with him getting knocked out. It was only last year that Khan was knocked out by Garcia and his chin might be compromised from that knockout loss.

The Molina fight wasn’t a real test of whether Khan can still take a hard shot because Molina didn’t have the size or the power to test Khan’s fragile chin.

Diaz uses to be a pretty good fighter 8 years ago when he held the IBF lightweight title, but a lot has changed since then. He’s bigger, slower, older and has a lot of miles on him from his many fights.
