Kellerman impressed with Rigondeaux

rigondeaux00By Chris Williams: HBO broadcaster Max Kellerman says he’s very, very impressed with the talent level of WBA World super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (11-0, 8 KO’s) as he gets ready for his fight next Saturday night against WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (31-1, 20 KO’s) at the Radio City Music Hall in New York, New York.

Kellerman: “Of all the Cubans that have turned pro, he’s the guy that I’m most excited about. I thought he’s the most real and posed the greatest threat to those in the pros because of his superb defense and real punching power.”

Let me finish what Kellerman didn’t say. Rigondeaux poses the greatest threat to Donaire of any fighter in the super bantamweight division, and don’t be surprised if Donaire hits the canvas clutching his midsection in pain after Rigondeaux hits him with a hard body shot next Saturday.

Rigondeaux couldn’t have a more perfect opponent for his counter puncher/body punching style of fighting in the 30-year-old Donaire. The reason why is simple. Donaire loads up with everything he throws, especially with his left hooks. He doesn’t believe in just throwing his hooks with moderate power, the guy puts everything he’s got into the shots and swings for the fences.

Donaire’s problem is he’s another Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in that he’s basically a guy three divisions bigger than his weight class, and he melts down and fights against smaller guys.

It’s a problem because it’s caused him to develop a lot of bad habits that are going to come back to haunt him on April 13th when he faces Rigondeaux in New York.

Donaire is going to load up with one of his left hooks and Rigondeaux is going to either block it or duck the shot and come in with a powerful left to the body that’s going to suck the wind right out of Donaire, sending him to the canvas for a knockout. I’d be very surprised if Donaire gets up from the body shot that Rigondeaux nails him with for a knockdown.

Rigondeaux said “I’ll beat anyone who says I don’t have enough fight experience. They’ll see the results once I’m inside the ring. It’s that simple.”
