Judah wants Mayweather-Guerrero winner and/or Garcia rematch

judah43By Eric Thomas: Zab Judah (42-8, 29 KO’s) isn’t discouraged at all about getting beaten by WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (26-0, 16 KO’s) by a 12 round unanimous decision last Saturday night in New York.

Judah reportedly wants to fight the winner of this Saturday’s fight between Floyd Mayweather and Robert “The Ghost’ Guerrero. Judah has lost two out of his last three fights, and that would make it kind of a tough sell to have him fighting the winner of the Mayweather-Guerrero fight.

The casual boxing fans likely have little knowledge of Judah’s losses and he’s still arguably one of the most recognizable names at 140. He’s mostly fought at 147 since 2004, so it wouldn’t be a big deal for him to move up in weight seven pounds to fight Mayweather or Guerrero. Judah already has a 12 round unanimous decision loss to Mayweather from 2006, but few boxing fans remember that fight aside from the hardcore fans.

If Guerrero beats Mayweather, you can forget about him fighting Judah. Guerrero would then almost surely be fighting Mayweather again in a rematch or else moving up in weight to fight WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, who already has expressed interest in facing the winner of the fight despite the fact that he’s gained reputation for fighting guys smaller than him.

This no doubt would continue Canelo’s rep of fighting guys much lighter than him, but I don’t think he or Golden Boy cares about that. If the fight makes money, they’ll make it happen even if Guerrero were a super featherweight. But more than likely Mayweather would be facing Guerrero again if he were to lose to him.

Judah doesn’t have a rematch clause with Danny Garcia, and that’s going to make it tough in trying to get a rematch with him because Golden Boy wants Garcia to fight the winner of the Lucas Matthysse vs. Lamont Peterson fight. Having Garcia fight Judah again will mess up their plans.

Judah was beaten by the scores of 116-111, 114-112 and 115-112 in large part because he gave away too many of the early rounds. He gave away too many early rounds and didn’t really come on until the last four rounds of the fight.
