How does Canelo expect Mayweather to fight him after pulling out of his May 4th fight card?

IMG_1793By Chris Williams: In a sign of total arrogance, WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) wants Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) to fight him later on this year on the Mexican holiday on September 14th. Canelo wants that fight badly because it would bring him huge money, and big time fame overnight.

It would be a fight that could turn Canelo into a pay-per-view star just as the Oscar De La Hoya vs. Mayweather fight turned Mayweather into a PPV star from that point forward. Unfortunately for Canelo, he made a major miscalculation recently by pulling out of Mayweather’s May 4th fight card after his attempts at pressuring him for a September 14th fight failed to work.

Canelo wanted a guarantee from Mayweather that he would fight him in September before he would agree to fight as the co-feature bout. The ultimatum by Canelo backfired with Mayweather getting upset by it and letting Canelo walk.

Canelo didn’t realize that Mayweather would take it as an insult that a still largely unproven fighter like Canelo would have the nerve to give him an ultimatum when he hadn’t beaten anyone other mostly welterweights during his career.

It’s surprising that Canelo still wants Mayweather to fight him in September, as if he would forget about Canelo having pulled out of his May 4th fight card. Canelo should understand that he can’t expect Mayweather to give him a payday with the way he pulled out of Mayweather’s fight card.

That would be like giving Canelo a reward for messing him over. Mayweather isn’t going to forget that Canelo pulled out of his May 4th fight card and he’s not going to just give Canelo a big payday because he’s asking for it after winning what many boxing fans felt was a controversial decision over Austin Trout in a fight that was scored in a bizarre way by two of the judges.

I think Canelo should forget about a fight with Mayweather because he pretty much burned his bridges by pulling out of the card. I’m not sure how he sees that move from where he comes from but from where Mayweather comes from that’s not something that you forget easily.
