murray322By Scott Gilfoid: Promoter Ricky Hatton thinks WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (50-2-2, 28 KO’s) is ready to be beaten by his fighter #3 WBC Martin Murray (25-0-1, 11 KO’s) on April 27th at Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Hatton said to BoxNation “I think this is the right fight at the right time. Sergio is 38. He was holding on for dear life against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in the last round. We’re not going in there to be second best. We’re going in there to take the title. I think Martin takes it on points or a late stoppage.”

Martin said “I’m just focused at getting in the ring and getting the job done. One way or another, I’ll find a way to beat him.”

Murray is a lot of fighters that you see who have been matched against mostly soft opposition. They do well against the fodder but when they step up a class they then struggle badly and look awful.

We saw Murray get what many boxing fans saw as a gift 12 round draw against former WBA Super World middleweight champion Felix Sturm two years ago in Germany, and that’s a fight that Martinez would have easily won. Murray basically went life and death with Sturm and was out on his feet in the last seconds of the fight after being staggered by Sturm.

I had Sturm winning the fight by two rounds, and I bent over backwards literally trying to find rounds to give Murray. He just didn’t have the talent to win that fight despite what some of his boxing fans felt.

In his last two fights, Murray has been put back on a soft diet in beating Karim Anchour and Jorge Navarro. Murray is going to be for kind of a rude awakening when he steps inside the ring to face the much better Sergio Martinez in front of 40,000 Argentinians at the Club Atletico Velez Sarsfield, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I see Murray getting knocked out in this fight well before the 8th round, especially if he tries to make a fight of it.
