Guerrero: I’m going to beat Mayweather down and he’s going to run

guerrero111By Allan Fox: Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) expects to give Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) a terrible beating on May 4th in their fight in Las Vegas, Nevada. Guerrero says he sees Mayweather running from him, but that it won’t help him because he’s going to get to him with pressure and then give him a terrible beating.

Guerrero said “I know fight night I’ll be ready to go, but it’s my time now. I’m going to finish him or if I don’t, he’s going to take a beating throughout the fight. [I’m going to] beat him down, put that pressure and put it on him. We ain’t here to him fun; we ain’t here to enjoy ourselves. I know Floyd’s going to bring a big ring and he’s going to run like a chicken with no head. I got to spar in a big ring. Anytime I fight someone it’s been the worst beating of their life. It’s just the way I roll.”

Although Guerrero defeated his last opponent Andre Berto using pressure last November, Guerrero has never been a big pressure fighter. He’s been someone that likes to fight on the inside the outside, but he’s not been someone that stalks his opponents to work them over. He was never a huge puncher that could do that kind of thing to his opponents.

I doubt that Mayweather will run from Guerrero like he seems to think he will. Mayweather was good at circling the ring to avoid pressure from his opponents but he stopped doing that after his win over Carlos Baldomir in 2006. Since that fight, Mayweather has always stood in the pocket looking to exchange with his opponents.

I doubt Mayweather could run even if he wanted to. I think he’s able to move around the ring to keep off the ropes, but he’s not going to be able to stay on his toes for 12 rounds without having to stop and exchange with Guerrero. The thing is if Mayweather move just enough to keep Guerrero from getting his feet planted to throw his combinations then we could see Guerrero struggle.
