Guerrero: If Mayweather touches me outside of the ring, I’m firing away

guerrero11by Dan Ambrose: Last Tuesday, WBC interim welterweight champion Robert Guerrero got worked up at his media day when he was discussing what he would do if Floyd Mayweather Jr. touches him in any way before they get inside the ring on May 4th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Guerrero said he’ll start firing punches at Mayweather if he puts his hands on him. It’s unclear what got Guerrero teed off because Mayweather hasn’t touched him or even shown any signs of touching.

It could be that Guerrero got a little upset with the way that Mayweather got in his face in their brief Showtime segment where Mayweather was in his face. That’s par for the course, though. I guess Guerrero isn’t used to that kind of thing because he’s faced a lot of low key opponents without the stardom that Mayweather has. It’s part of show business entertainment and it’s so sad that Guerrero hasn’t processed that reality yet. Someone needs to make him understand what’s going on here.

Guerrero said “If you touch me, I’m firing away. Whether it’s a press conference, no one’s going to lay a hand on me.”

Guerrero needs to settle down and save it for the ring because he’s going to waste energy hyping himself up for imaginary scenarios that have little chance of ever taking place. What’s surprising is how he worked himself up all on his own without Mayweather ever having even hinted that he would touch him outside of the ring.

For Guerrero to even be thinking about such weird scenarios just makes you think he may have some fear there of Mayweather. Guerrero might as well be dreaming of it snowing in the middle of the summer in Las Vegas because the chances of Mayweather punching him outside of the ring are about as good as something like that happening.

Hopefully, Guerrero doesn’t start throwing punches in every direction of Mayweather makes face to face contact with him during their face off the day before the fight because this will only lead to a likely fine and/or suspension for Guerrero. He needs to keep calm, stay level headed and not start thinking of turning into a street brawl.
