Froch says he’s ready to fight Kessler

Froch#9By Scott Gilfoid: With little more than a month to go for his big unification fight against his old nemesis WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (46-2, 35 KO’s) on May 25th, IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (30-2, 22 KO’s) says he feels ready to face Kessler and that he’s in good condition for their fight.

I hope that’s the case because I’d hate to hear excuses from Froch afterwards if things don’t right for him like the last time he faced Kessler in 2010.

Froch said to thesun.co.uk “I am getting that tingle in my hands and down my spine now, I know that feeling well and it means that I’m ready to fight…I feel like everything is clicking in training and sparring has been fantastic. I couldn’t ask to be in a better place than I am right now.”

Normally I would say that Froch should be completely ready by next month to face Kessler but with Froch you just don’t know. He seemingly was completely ready to face Kessler in 2010, but just being delayed in being able to get to Denmark a few days was enough to put Froch off his game to where he lost the fight.

Froch also lost his edge when he faced Andre Ward in December 2011 in Atlantic City when Froch got bummed out being away from the UK around Christmas time. With Froch being so delicate and easily thrown off of his game, you just never know what will throw him off this time.

Maybe he won’t like the date of the fight or maybe the drive over to London will throw him. It could be anything. I’m not sure if Froch is superstitious but he seems to be one of those types where he has to everything perfect in his life otherwise he’ll lose.

I can’t see why Froch would get all bent out of shape for being delayed in getting to Denmark. That shouldn’t have been enough of a reason for him to lose the fight. Likewise, being bummed out because he was fighting Ward near Christmas shouldn’t have been a big enough factor to cause him to lose the fight, but if he believes it then I guess it must be true.

I think Froch gets lost in his routines and rituals, and is unable to pull himself out of them when things don’t go right as planned. Fighters like that don’t adapt well when their opponents do something unexpected and I think that’s one of the reasons why he got schooled so badly by Kessler and Ward, and why he’ll likely get beaten again by Kessler next month.
