Floyd Mayweather: ” The Hardest Button to Button”

By Tewodore - 04/27/2013 - Comments

mayweather53With another clash ensuing the promotional machine of Golden Boy and Mayweather promotions leap into the unknown with MAYDAY.

This Fight will be Floyd Mayweather Jr’s 44th professional fight in a career that has spanned 17 years with zero defeats making the Money Team Capo the” Hardest button to button”.

At age 36, its hard to even see signs of visible slippage in Mayweather’s regimen. Add to that the re-addition of his father to his team who brings a realist approach to what Floyd should be doing at this stage of his career to remain unbeaten. His opponent Guerrero is briming with confidence.

Literally licking his chops at the opportunity of facing the best in the world. At every interview he shows the perfect mixture of reverence and contempt that tells this writer Guerrero is not just here for a paycheck.

The underlying enmity between Mayweather and Oscar De La Hoya is always at the forefront of any Mayweather-Golden Boy promoted event, with Schaefer acting as the intermediary. Oscar has gone so far as to have a back up plan ready to  finally get that button buttoned! Will it work?  Can we use the Past to predict the unpredictable future? Do the odds makers have it right? This article will aim to answer these questions and also reveal why Mayweather is ” THE HARDEST BUTTON TO BUTTON”!

Lets start with Guerrero. In him we find an enigmatic character, hell bent on reshaping the landscape of boxing. Laying claim to the throne so to speak. With the aid of Richard Schaefer, he has punched his golden ticket to Mayweather land. His trip was going very smooth when suddenly Bam! Everything changed arrested for gun possession en route to the biggest meeting so far of his career.

Unperturbed Guerrero presses on into the unknown claiming no fear. No regrets putting on the air of a conqueror. With his father who is the source of his strength although channeled through different avenues. It’s easy to see that the challenger has picked this way of life primarily due to his father.

Unfortunately for him nothing he has seen to date will prepare him for what is coming on May 4th. Does he have a chance to win? Obviously anything can happen, but realistically speaking the odds makers are right.

Using the past to predict the unpredictable is just like it sounds ridiculous. What do past events have to do with the present? Nothing. Berto, Ortiz, Cotto, Aydin. Throw the outcomes out they don’t matter but what does matter is what the fighter displayed during the bout. His stylistic flaws and attributes. Ability to take punishment, willingness to get dirty, tactical adjustments, stamina, agility these are just a few of the crucial points of observation when attempting to make a logical prediction of the unknown.

Guerrero knows how to make the fight dirty along the same lines of Castillo, he can definitely take punishment, as was seen in the Berto engagement- his stylistic flaws will lead to his downfall. Those flat feet of his will cost him dearly in this engagement. Unlike Berto, Mayweather won’t fade. Guerrero is willing to push until he’s knocked out and thats exactly what will happen to him. Mayweather’s stylistic flaws and attributes, his ability to also take punishment will take center stage.

Expect Floyd to take his fair share of random shots due to his own flaws a recycled defense is anathema to the champion his moves must be fresh. Every trick has its shelf life. Its Floyd tactical adjustments and known ability to get dirty that have made him the hardest button to button. Unbeaten in 43 pro bouts. If Guerrero thinks Castillo had Mayweather figured out he will be in for a rude awakening as Mayweather has long ago prepared for fighters who use those tactics.

Judging by the recent moves, and words of Golden Boy head honcho Oscar De La Hoya, the hunt is still on to find a fighter to close the shirt. With success comes enmity. While Mayweather has recently skyrocketed their are many who wish to see him Buttoned! Already casting a eye to the next engagement. Arum maneuvering his two rooks Marquez and Bradley, to ensure that Mayweather will have to walk down Canelo Street. Oscar sits waiting hoping putting all of his faith in his red headed protege. In his mind its already a forgone conclusion.

The May Day outcome is already known. Mayweather will win. His only hope of seeing this Button Buttoned is Canelo. As for Mayweather, he knows the world is chasing.  Trying tirelessly to bring his epic reign to a horrible end. How has he reacted to it all? Without the faintest shred of doubt. Ever vigilante and always prepared.  Will Lady luck keep walking with him in his quest to remain THE HARDEST BUTTON TO BUTTON!  Only time will tell as we head lustily into the six fight span that will culminate in either the end of one of the greatest careers in boxing or destroy it. Either way it excites this author.
