bizier23By Allan Fox: Golden Boy Promotions received bad news today that their fighter IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s) will have to defend his title on May 18th against #3 IBF Kevin Bizier (20-0, 14 KO’s) at the Boardwalk Hall, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA.

Alexander was supposed to be fighting #1 IBF Kell Brook, but he had to pull out of the fight due to him suffering a foot injury that made it necessary for him to pull out of the fight. Golden Boy Promotions was looking to find a well-known opponent for Alexander to fight, but unfortunately the International Boxing Federations has reportedly ordered Alexander to fight the next available contender and in this case it’s the #3 Bizier to take the fight.

Now it’s up to Bizier’s promoters whether they’ll accept the fight, but you have to figure they’ll let him take the fight because he was already scheduled to fight on May 25th but they hadn’t found an opponent for that fight date. If they say no to the fight with Alexander then you have to wonder whether they have confidence in Bizier to win the fight.

Bizier is coming off of an 8th round injury stoppage win over former lightweight champion Nate Campbell last February. Although Bizier won the fight, he didn’t look impressive against a much older fighter that didn’t belong fighting in that weight class.

Bizier was really easy to hit and he looked to have stamina problems as the fight wore on. Watching that fight, it’s impossible to see Bizier beating a quality fghter like Alexander or any of the other top welterweights. He just seems to be a level below the best guys, but he’s a good Canadian fighter. It’s just that Alexander is so much better and will likely make him look as bad as he did Marcos Maidana.

The win over the fading 41-year-old Campbell is Bizier’s best win of his 5-year pro career.
