Deontay Wilder vs. Audley Harrison, 27th of April at the Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield

wilder51By Daniel Mcglinchey: On the undercard of the April 27th fight between Amir Khan and Julio Diaz is the perhaps more intriguing 10 rounder between veteran Audley Harrison (31-6, 23 KO’s) and undefeated American Deontay Wilder (27-0 27 KO’s).

Statistically this fight looks like a mismatch. First glimpse at Deontay’s record, unbeaten and knocking out every opponent he has faced certainly looks impressive, but if we delve a little deeper into that record it becomes apparent that Deontay has not once fought a live opponent. His most notable win was an outing against Kelvin Price (13-1, 6 KO’s), a soft hitting aging American who only had 1 amateur bout before turning professional.

Majority of boxing fans expect Wilder to blow Harrison away within a few rounds just like David Haye and David Price have done in the past. I don’t see this happening.

Audley’s career is definitely less than impressive. He promised a lot and came up short, but there is no denying he has power in his left hand. He recently won Prizefighter and is now pushing himself at one final attempt at Heavyweight glory. This is a step up for Wilder and I for one am glad to see at long last he is taking a step in the right direction.

Audley has a great chance if he can land on Deontay’s chin. Deontay’s chin has big questions marks over it as in the past 400+ lb journeyman Dustin Nichols (4-8 4 KO’s) exposed it by dropping the Bronze Bomber in the first round.

I genuinely believe Harrison has a good chance due to the fact Wilder is untested and has a suspect chin. Wilder has power but can he apply it to a fighter that actually knows how to box? This is definitely not a mismatch from my point of view.
