martinez1By Chris Williams: If Top Rank promoted former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (46-1-1, 32 KO’s) wants an opportunity to try and avenge his loss to Sergio Martinez (50-2-2, 28 KO’s) in rematch later on this year then Chavez Jr. will have to agree to Olympic style random blood testing for the fight, says Martinez’s adviser Sampson Lewkowicz.

Also, Chavez Jr. and Martinez will have to agree on their fight taking place in one of the following cities: Las Vegas, Atlantic City or New York. In other words, the fight won’t be staged in Texas to take advantage of Chavez Jr’s huge Mexican fan base there or in Mexico.

Chavez Jr. was recently hit with a 9 month suspension and a big $900,000 fine by the Nevada State Athletic Commission after he tested positive for Marijuana for his last fight with Martinez last September. Chavez Jr. lost the fight by a 12 round unanimous decision by the scores of 117-110, 118-109 and 118-109.

The huge fine and suspension were a result in part because of Chavez Jr. having previously tested positive for diuretics in 2009, and a drunk driving last year.

Chavez Jr’s promoter Bob Arum wasn’t pleased with the huge fine and suspension for Chavez Jr. and he’s decided to have his next fight in June staged in Texas. However, that’s not going to be an option if Chavez Jr. wants to fight Martinez again because he’s not going to fight him in Texas. Arum and Chavez Jr. can say no to Las Vegas, but they’ll have to decide on Atlantic City or New York if they want the fight with him.

Lewkowicz said to RingTV “We’re willing to fight Chavez again under the condition of this time having the Olympic test. If there is nothing wrong, do the test, and we’ll have a fight.”

If Chavez Jr. and Arum want the rematch with Martinez badly enough then they’ll agree to the Olympic style testing. It’s a mystery whether Chavez Jr. will agree to the testing at this point. If not, then there won’t be a rematch because Martinez is adamant that he wants testing for this fight.

Martinez defends his WBC title this month against unbeaten middleweight contender Martin Murray (25-0-1, 11 KO’s) on April 27th at the Club Atlético Vélez Sarsfield, Buenos Aires, Distrito Federal, Argentina.
