bradley2342By Chris Williams: WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (29-0 12 KO’s) was blown away after he beat boxing icon Manny Pacquiao last year in June by a 12 round split decision in Las Vegas, Nevada. Instead of being greeted with a positive reaction from boxing fans, Bradley says he got very little in the way of praise for his accomplishment, and he was even received death threats from angry fans after he unseated the Filipino from his WBO 147 lb. strap.

Bradley said to USA Today “I didn’t get any credit after the Pacquiao fight whatsoever. People talked about me and my style, how boring [it is]. I’ve had some people send me death threats because I won. I had a lot of people say I should give the belt back.”

How sad, Pacquiao’s fans going wild after he’s on the receiving end of a close decision. I wonder where these same fans were when Pacquiao was getting credit for two controversial decision wins over Juan Manuel Marquez and a controversial draw. Marquez appeared to win the first three fights, but found himself losing two out of the three and getting a draw in the other.

Finally, Marquez, sick of being beaten by controversial decisions, decided the only way he could be sure of defeating Pacquiao was to knock him out, and that’s exactly what he did last December in scoring a 6th round knockout win.

It’s such a tragedy that boxing fans would get so angry at Bradley that they would resort to threatening his life just because he beat their hero. Some boxing fans attach their own egos to certain fighters, so when they see that fighter lose, it’s like their ego takes a hit.

Bradley didn’t take the threats seriously enough to report it to the police.

This month, Bradley will be making his first defense of his WBO title against challenger Ruslan Provodnikov (22-1, 15 KO’s) at the Home Depot Center, in Carson, California, USA.
