wilder23By Scott Gilfoid: If David Price wants to avenge his 2nd round knockout loss to #1 IBF Tony Thompson (37-3, 25 KO’s) then he had better try and snatch him up really quick to sign for a fight because the powerful Golden Boy Promotions is in the process of booking Thompson for a fight against the talented heavyweight puncher #9 WBA Deontay Wilder (27-0, 27 KO’s) in the near future in a fight that will be staged in Wilder’s home state of Alabama.

Schaefer said last Saturday night, “We believe Deontay Wilder is ready as well. We’d like to put him with the guy that beat David Price; Thompson. And so we’ll look and have them fight from Alabama, but I think Deontay Wilder is an exciting young heavyweight prospect in the United States.”

Thompson vs. Wilder could be a really interesting fight due to the huge size of the two guys. Wilder is 6’7”, and Thompson 6’5”. Wilder recently knocked out the 6’7” Kelvin Price last December in an impressive performance. It only took one big shot from Wilder to KO Price, and that goes to show you the kind of amazing punching power that Wilder possesses with his right hand.

It’s good to see that Golden Boy is finally about to take Wilder off his leash because he’s never going to lean anything fighting guys that he knocks out in one or two rounds. He needs to face fighters that will be throwing shots back at him so that he can develop his game a little more. He hasn’t faced anyone that can take his power, but eventually he will and so it’s good that he’s facing a veteran like Thompson. Who knows?

Maybe Thompson will be the first heavyweight that can take Wilder’s right hands without getting knocked out. I kind of doubt it, but it’s possible. But I do know that Wilder won’t end up like Price by getting knocked out. No way will that happen. This fight is going to be a showcase fight for Wilder to show off his talent to the world, and it’s going to be interesting to see how he does.
