rios55By Allan Fox: With still nine days to go before their March 30th clash, there are only 1,500 tickets left for the rematch between light welterweights Brandon Rios (31-0-1, 23 KO’s) and Mike Alvarado (33-1, 23 KO’s) at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

The venue seats 12,000 fans, and that’s pretty impressive that Brandon-Rios have already sold 10,000 tickets given that neither of them have large fan bases.

Both guys are promising a war like the one they had last October where they went toe-to-toe for seven rounds with Alvarado being stopped on his feet in the 7th after getting rocked by a series of hard shots from Rios.

Alvarado is promising to fight pretty much the same way as he did last time, but with a few minor adjustments to keep himself from getting hurt. Alvarado is going to need to make more than a few minor adjustments if he wants to win this fight because he took a lot of punishment in that fight, as well as his fight before that against Breidis Prescott in stopping him in the 10th round.

It could be that Alvarado realizes that he doesn’t have great boxing skills and that he’d be better off going all out to at least have a chance of winning the fight.

Alvarado definitely isn’t Richard Abril, a fighter that boxed Rios silly in dominating him for 12 rounds, only to be on the receiving end of what many boxing fans saw as a controversial decision.

Rios said to Fightnews.com “I’m going for a knockout. That’s the way I feel right now.”

That’s the way Rios always feels. He’s one of those guys that live and die by a knockout. He can be out-boxed as we saw in his fight with Abril, as well as with Alvarado, and he kind of has to go for a KO unless he wants to lose by a decision.
