rosado2By Allan Fox: Unbeaten middleweight prospect J’Leon Love (15-0, 8 KO’s) will be facing Gabriel Rosado (21-6, 13 KO’s) on May 4th on the undercard of the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Love-Rosado fight is scheduled for 10 rounds.

Rosado, a light middleweight, is coming off of a 7th round knockout loss at the hands of WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin last January in a fight where Rosado elected to move for 90% of the fight rather than trying to slug it out with the harder hitting Golovkin.

It didn’t matter though, as Golovkin was able to beat Rosado’s face to a bloody mess by hitting with hard shots each time he could catch up to him. Love, 5’10”, would have likely fared no better than Rosado, and if anything, Golovkin would have knocked Love out sooner because he’d have likely tried to slug with Golovkin instead of running.

Love, 25, looked pretty poor in his last fight against Derrick Findley last February. Love took a pounding from Findley, and spent the entire second half of the fight covering up on the ropes in a defensive posture. Compared to Love’s other fights where he was knocking out over-matched opponents in two or three rounds, he looked terrible.

They stepped him up against a guy that wouldn’t roll over from the first shot he took, and Love looked frightened and confused. The fight closer to a draw than an actual win for Love, and it showed you that talent-wise, Love is closer to someone like Fernando Guerrero than he is to the top guys like Sergio Martinez, Chavez Jr. and Golovkin.

Also on the undercard is Daniel Ponce De Leon defending his title against Abner Mares, and Leo Santa Cruz vs. TBA. Those are the only decent fights on the undercard. Hopefully Golden Boy Promotions finds someone good for Santa Cruz to face because he was going to battle a way past his best Rafael Marquez until Marquez came down with an injury.
