Jeff Mayweather: Trout will need to really dominate Canelo to get a decision win

Web-P3142429By Dan Ambrose: Jeff Mayweather believes that WBA World junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (26-0, 14 KO’s) is in a tough situation facing the much more popular and big time money maker WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) next month on April 20th at the Alamodome, in San Antonio, Texas, USA.

Mayweather thinks Trout is going to have to really dominate Canelo if he wants to escape from the Alamodome with a decision in this fight because of Canelo’s popularity, and because of the huge money he brings to the sport of boxing.

Mayweather said to Hustleboss.com “Skill-wise, I lean towards Trout. I’m not sure [who will win]. Boxing is still a business, and with Canelo being able to fill stadiums, it’s one of those situations where Austin Trout can’t get a fair shake. He’s [Trout] going to have to win 8 rounds out of 12 rounds to get the decision.”

I also have a feeling that Trout is going to have to really dominate Canelo to get the decision win because it may not be enough for him to appear to win by a narrow margin. He may have to really school if he wants to make sure that he gets the win. Look at the reality of the situation Trout’s in. He’s fighting one of the most popular fighters in boxing, and he’s fighting him in Texas in front of what will likely be 40,000 screaming Canelo fans.

These fans are going to be shouting like mad each time Canelo lands anything, and they’ll likely be quiet when Trout is making Canelo look average. I think the crowd will have an unconscious effect on the judging for the fight with them believing that Canelo is doing better than he actually is.

Trout is going to need to make sure that he can try and take the judges out of the equation by looking to KO Canelo or at least putting them in situation where they’ll have no doubts about who the winner is.
