Jeff Mayweather: Floyd is on a different level than Guerrero

floyd556By Chris Williams: Floyd Mayweather Jr’s uncle Jeff Mayweather doesn’t see WBC interim welterweight champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) as having any chance at all of pulling off an upset over Floyd on May 4th in their fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Jeff sees Guerrero as just a basic fighter that comes forward trying to batter his opponents into submission instead of trying to box them.

Jeff said to hustleboss.com “He’s [Guerrero] one dimensional. He’s going to try and come hard and basically he’s going to get knocked out. Floyd’s going to outsmart him…and KO him in the 6th or 7th rounds. When you talk about him and you talk about Floyd, you’re talking two whole different levels.”

Jeff is probably correct in his analysis of Guerrero. This is a guy that doesn’t have much variation to his game from fight to fight. Guerrero basically just goes right at his opponents looking to slug it out with them. He never looks great in winning his fights, but he’s generally matched up with guys that are flawed in some way or another that allows him to get the better of them. Mayweather is a whole different level altogether.

This isn’t someone that Guerrero will be able to walk down in his straight up manner and just out-work for 12 rounds like he did against Andre Berto. Guerrero is going to have to come up with something different if he wants to beat Mayweather on May 4th. Guerrero likes to say that he’s someone that can adapt to any situation like Mayweather does, but we’ll see if that’s just talk or if he can actually do that on May 4th.

I’ve never seen Guerrero change his fighting style in any of his bouts, so if he’s going to do it against Mayweather then it would be a first for him. Can Guerrero adapt enough to beat Mayweather? Probably not because for Guerrero to adapt enough to win the fight, he’d need hand speed, foot speed and power, and he doesn’t have any of those things going for him and he never will.
