European U/23 champion Jason Quigley claimed middleweight gold at the 44th edition of the Usti nad Labem Grand Prix in the Czech Republic today.

But Sean McComb had to settle for silver after losing out to Beijing 2008 Olympian Mikios Varga of Hungary.

Current Irish Elite champion Quigley, who boxes out of the Finn Valley BC in Donegal, was 9-4 ahead going into the third round before posting a 14-6 decision over Serbia’s Alexsandr Drenovak, who reached the last-16 at the London 2012 Olympics.

McComb. of the Holy Trinity BC in Belfast, was 3-2 ahead after the first versus Varga, but the Hungarian was 7-5 in front at the end of the second en route to a 15-10 verdict.

Quigley (gold), McComb (silver), Ross Hickey (bronze) and Tommy McCarthy (bronze) finished in podium positions in the Czech Republic.

Hickey had to pull out of his semi-final because of a hand injury.

Billy Walsh and Zuar Antia were working Ireland’s corner in the Czech Republic.

The Irish squad are due to arrive home via Dublin Airport at 5.30pm tomorrow.
