Belfast’s Sean McComb and Donegal’s Jason Quigley advanced to the finals of the Usti nad Labem Grand Prix following convincing semi-finals wins in the Czech Republic today.

But Belfast’s Tommy McCarthy dropped a 7-2 last-four decision to Slovakia’s Sandro Dirnfeld in the heavyweight class tonight.

Current Irish Elite lightweight and middleweight champions McComb and Quigley, a gold medal winner at the 2012 European U/23 Championships, claimed all three rounds en route to 13-7 and 14-7 verdicts over Germany’s Amet Eminovic and China’s Zhou Yunfei.

The Ulster duo will now be aiming to have a St Patrick’s eve to remember versus Beijing Olympian Mikios Varga and Alexsandr Adarenovak in Saturday’s finals.

McComb and Quigley are guaranteed to be taken home at least a silver.

McCarthy and Ross Hickey, who had to withdraw from today’s semi-finals because of a hand injury, will be taking home bronze.

Sixteen nations are taking part in the Czech Republic Grand Prix.
