Golovkin was hoping to get contender Matthew Macklin and IBF champion Daniel Geale to face him for the March 30th fight, but neither of them agreed to face him. WBO middleweight champion Peter Quillin was another fighter that they wanted to face in March, but he’s scheduled to defend his title against Fernando Guerero next month on April 27th.

If Golovkin gets past the 6’1” Ishida, which seems likely, then he’s hoping that former WBA Super World middleweight champion Felix Sturm, #2 WBA, will agree to face him if he’s given the chance.

Sturm has already said that he’d be open to facing Golovkin for his title, and this will be a good chance to see if Sturm was serious about what he said.

You can count on Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler making an offer to Sturm for Golovkin’s next fight in June. Sturm was recently beaten by Sam Soliman last month.

Ishida doesn’t have the power to stand and trade with Golovkin, and it’s going to be difficult for him to be able to go the distance in this fight. Ishida has lost his last two fights to Paul Williams and Dmitry Pirog, but it’s going to be really difficult for him to go the full 12 rounds without taking massive punishment in the process.

Golovkin made a bloody mess of junior middleweight Gabriel Rosado in stopping him in the 7th round in January. Rosado only traded shots with Golovin for two of the seven rounds, but it was enough to leave Rosado bleeding badly from multiple cuts.

Ishida isn’t known for suffering cuts, but it doesn’t matter. He’s going to either get cut or knocked down/out in this fight if he’s unable to keep out of range of Golovkin’s big shots.
