Froch: Kessler can’t stand in front of me; I’m genetically gifted

ward56344By Scott Gilfoid: IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (30-2, 22 KO’s) battles WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (46-2, 35 KO’s) in a little over two month on May 25th in London.

Last time Froch and Kessler fought three years ago, Kessler was simply too much for Froch when the two fighters went toe-to-toe, but this time Froch believes that Kessler can’t stand in front of him without getting hurt.

Froch believes this because he’s won his last two fights against Lucian Bute and Yusaf Mack, and neither of which did well when they made the mistake of standing in front of Froch.

Froch said to Sky Sports News “It’s going to be 12 rounds of hell. I’ve said it before I’m genetically gifted. I’m feeling tough and invincible; you’ve seen my last three fights [loss to Andre Ward, and wins over Bute and Mack]. I don’t think Kessler can stand in front of me and give me any problems.”

Oh man, it looks like Froch is back on his ‘I’m genetically gifted’ trip again. Froch sees himself as having special genetics that gives him talent that other fighters don’t possess. Rather than seeing it as simply hard word, Froch is putting it in the old genetics category. I wonder who planted these ideas in his head about genetics.

Well, here’s the deal: The last time Froch faced Kessler in 2010, he got royally spanked and he couldn’t handle it when Kessler was directly in front of him. Watch the fight again and you’ll see that it was Froch that was scurrying away each time the two of them had any meaningful exchanges. Now why would anything be different three years later with Froch now in his mid-30s and having been beaten by Ward after the Kessler fight?

Will Froch’s genetics save him from getting whipped again by Kessler? I think not.

The bad thing about Froch putting his ego on the line and claiming he’ll win because of genetics is because of how crummy he might end up feeling if he loses the fight. I mean, if it comes down to a genetics thing and Froch gets whipped again, will his genetics not be good then? Instead of looking at it in terms of genetics, Froch should be thinking about the Kessler as being a match that will be determined on talent, skills and brain power rather than genetics.
