By Scott Gilfoid: IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (30-2, 22 KO’s) has been pining away for a rematch with WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (46-2, 35 KO’s) ever since he got whipped by him three years ago in the Super Six tournament in April 2010.

After hounding Kessler for the rematch, Froch was able to finally get the rematch scheduled for May 25th at the O2 Arena, in London, United Kingdom. Since his fight with Kessler, Froch has been beaten by WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward by a fairly lopsided 12 round decision in December 2011.

Froch hasn’t avenged that defeat despite Ward being more than open to letting him have a second chance at him. Instead, Froch has beaten Lucian Bute and a Yusaf Mack both by knockouts.

I don’t know what it is but those two victories for Froch seem to have given him a bad case of amnesia about his loss to Ward and his HIGHLY controversial 12 round split decision win over Andre Dirrell in the Super Six tournament because Froch is babbling about him and Kessler being the top fighters in the 168 lb. division above Ward and Dirrell.

Froch said “I think between Mikkel Kessler and myself, we’re the best two super middleweights in the world.”

What on earth is Froch yacking about? Did those two empty victories over Bute and Mack distort his memory of the past and empty his head or is this just a case of wishful thinking by Froch? How he can come to the conclusion that he and Kessler are the two best fighters in the super middleweight division is beyond me because both guys got spanked by Ward in the Super Six tournament. And Froch has that controversial victory over Dirrell.

Some boxing fans think Dirrell beat Froch easier than Ward did, and I agree with them. Dirrell was barely hit in that fight, and didn’t have any marks on his face. It looked like Dirrell had just come out of a light jog at the end of the fight.

Let me clue Froch in about his and Kessler’s placement in the super middleweight rankings. They’re not the two best fighters at super middleweight. Here is what I feel are the true best super middleweights at 168 at this moment:

1. Andre Ward

2. Andre Dirrell

3. Anthony Dirrell

4. Adonis Stevenson

5. Mikkel Kessler

6. Carl Froch
