Froch: I’m gunning for Kessler

froch12By Dan Henderson: Today I will take a look at the upcoming rematch between IBF super middleweight champion Carl ‘The Cobra’ Froch and WBA strap holder Mikkel Kessler. Froch dropped a close points decision to Kessler back in 2010 in Denmark whilst both fighters were participating in the Super Six boxing tournament and ever since then Froch has been itching to avenge the defeat and finally he’ll have his opportunity when they both meet in a highly anticipated rematch on May 25th at o2 Arena, London.

Froch was speaking today to SkySports and this is what he had to say, “I’ve lost to him and I need to beat him, he’s in trouble. I’m gunning for him and I’ll be looking for the stoppage. I wasn’t 100 per cent and I still nearly beat him. Now, I’m on the crest of a wave.

“I obliterated (Lucian) Bute, tore his title off him, against Kessler I was just landing one punch at a time but, against Bute, I was landing combinations of 12, 14 punches. I was ill-prepared last time, my flight was delayed because of the ash cloud. I’ll be ready this time, more than ready, and he won’t be able to cope.

“Froch is adamant that the advancing years are not yet beginning to take their toll.”I’m feeling good,” he said. “I feel physically in my prime, I didn’t turn pro until I was 25. You’re only as old as the number of punches you’ve taken, and I don’t take too many. I think there’s 18 months to two years left in me.

I must point out that since their first meeting I feel Froch has improved immensely but I also do believe that Kessler is not as good as he once was and I fully expect The Cobra to pick up the victory but not via knockout unless the referee stops the contest.

The fight will air exclusively on Sky Sports PPV.
