Danny Garcia: I beat Khan once and I’ll beat him again if I have to

garcia4543By Scott Gilfoid: WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (25-0, 16 KO’s) will be taking his first step to an eventual rematch with Amir Khan (27-3, 19 KO’s) by defending his title next month against 35-year-old Zab Judah (42-7, 29 KO’s) on April 27th at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York, USA.

If Garcia wins that fight, he’ll have to face the winner of the Lucas Matthysse vs. Lamont Peterson fight, which is scheduled for May 18th, and then if Garcia wins that bout he’ll be back in the ring with Khan either late 2013 or early 2014.

Garcia said to Sky Sports “I beat him [Khan] once and I could beat him again…so if I had to fight Khan again and my manager thinks it’s a good move…then we’re going to do it.”

Garcia is going to have to fight Khan again if Garcia gets past Judah and the Matthysse-Peterson winner because that’s what his promoters are angling him towards. They’re making it incredibly easy on Khan because all he has to do is fight the 2nd tier welterweight Julio Diaz, and then wait around for winner of the light welterweight tourney to face whoever emerges from that.

I mean, it’s really too bad Golden Boy didn’t have more faith in Khan to match him up against a highly ranked light welterweight or welterweight contender instead of digging up the non-top 15 ranked Diaz.

That’s like throwing an underhand pitch to someone that’s having a hard time hitting fastballs. Golden Boy is putting it on a tee for Khan to hit it out of the park by letting him fight Diaz instead of an actual contender.

Whoever emerges as the winner of the tourney, they’re going to be pinning their ears back going after the fragile-chinned Khan. I hope Golden Boy doesn’t suddenly have seconds thoughts about letting that fighter face Khan because it could be brutal what they do to him.
