Charr: Haye can stop looking for his next opponent; I’m right here

cid_FAB59DED-B5ED-4071-8886-C8AE5E82BE1C@fritzBy Scott Gilfoid: #8 WBC heavyweight contender Manuel Charr (23-1, 13 KO’s) says he’s willing to step up to the plate and be David Haye’s next opponent for his comeback fight on June 29th in Manchester, England.

Charr, 28, attempted previously to get a fight with Haye by calling him out after Haye, #1 WBA, #4 IBF, #4 WBO, #5 WBC, defeated Dereck Chisora last July. Charr crashed the post-fight press conference and challenged Haye to fight him.

Haye instead of saying get lost, he tactically blew him off by telling Charr to call his manager Adam Booth to set up the fight. Haye then went into retirement.

Charr said in his press release on Thursday “I heard that Haye is still looking for an opponent for his next fight. I’m right here and waiting…I still want a rematch against [Vitali] Klitschko, and Haye is my way to get there.”

I think Charr is a little misguided about the way to land another fight against Vitali. Charr can fight Haye a 100 times, and he’s never going to get a rematch Vitali. The big 6’7” Ukrainian only has a small handful of fights left before he retires, and he’s not going to waste one of them beating up on the Charr again.

Vitali already dominated Charr in stopping him last year in September in an easy 4th round TKO. Why would Vitali want to burn up one of the last remaining fights taking on a guy like Charr that was slow as molasses?

Booth is supposedly looking at setting Haye up with an unbeaten top 15 contender for Haye’s next fight, but I’m not expecting much in terms of Booth finding a contender with a pulse. My guess is they’ll dig up a nominal contender, and drag him in the ring for Haye to look good against. And they’ll make a big fuss about his opponents’ unbeaten record without mentioning that the wins were against terrible opposition.

I’m not high on Charr at all, but I’m betting that whoever Booth pulls from a graveyard for Haye to fight, he won’t be as good as Charr.
