Canelo said in an interview with esnewsreportingcom: “Anything can happen in boxing, but I hope Guerrero wins.”

So the question is does Canelo really want Guerrero to win and why or is he just saying what he thinks his loyal fan base want to hear? In other words, Canelo pulling for another Mexican like himself to defeat Floyd. If Canelo is rooting for Guerrero to win he’s actually pulling against his own self-interests because it’s worth more money for him that Mayweather to stay unbeaten until when and if they eventually fight.

Having Guerrero beat Mayweather first will take a lot of the interest out of a potential Canelo-Mayweather fight because Mayweather’s unbeaten mystique will be gone.

Canelo really should be hoping that he can get past his fight next month against WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (26-0, 14 KO’s) on April 20th because if Canelo loses that fight like a lot of boxing fans see him doing, his stock is going to go way, way down, and he’s not going to be able to get a fight with Mayweather until he either avenges the loss to Trout or puts together enough big right wins that boxing fans will have forgotten.

That’s going to take too long for Canelo to achieve that goal because Mayweather doesn’t have four years for Canelo to pile up enough significant wins for boxing fans to forget about him being easily handled by Trout. If Canelo faces Trout and loses a second time, then that’s the end of any talk of a Mayweather-Canelo fight. The only way the fight could happen then is if Mayweather sees Canelo as another Miguel Cotto that he can get an easy payday against.
