alcine2323By Scott Gilfoid: British junior middleweight champion will be taking on former WBA light middleweight strap holder Joachim Alcine (33-3-1, 19 KO’s) next month on April 20th at the Blackpool Winter Gardens in Blackpool, England.

Rose, 28, sees this as a step up despite the fact that 36-year-old Alcine has been stopped twice in his last four fights, both stoppages coming by 1st round knockout. Alcine was stopped by Matthew Macklin last September and hasn’t fought since.

Rose said to Fightnews.com “I want to step on from British level up to World level and we’ll see if I’m ready for that against Alcine.”

I hate to rain on Rose’s parade but Alcine isn’t ranked in the top tier of the junior middleweight division. He’s not a “World level” fighter,” so Rose is kidding himself if he thinks he’s getting a world level opponent for his next fight.

Rose is getting a second tier guy like the fighters that he’s been facing his entire 8-year pro career. I rate Rose’s last three opponents – Vivian Harris, Kris Carslaw and Sam Webb as better than Alcine. Rose isn’t going to be getting what he thinks getting from this fight. He’ll win, but it won’t prove a thing.

If Rose wants to take on true world class opposition than he needs to face the following junior middleweights:

Demetrius Andrade
Carlos Molina
John Jackson
Willie Nelson
Keith Thurman
Erislandy Lara
Vanes Martirosyan
Gabriel Rosado
Devlin Rodriguez
Alfredo Angulo
Cornelius Bundrage

Now if Rose were to face any of those guys and beat them, then I’d be definitely impressed because he would have actually faced and beaten a world level junior middleweight, but facing Alcine isn’t what he thinks it is. That’s just another easy 2nd tier opponent like the guys he’s been facing all along during his career.
