guerrero112By Dan Ambrose: WBC interim welterweight champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) has shockingly been arrested with a pistol while attempting to board a plane at the at the New York’s John F. Kennedy airport, according to Yahoo Sports News.

The pistol, which is said to be a 9 MM Smith & Wesson, wasn’t loaded. However, there are strict rules against passengers bringing weapons onto planes.

How this effects Guerrero’s May 4th fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. is unclear. It’s obviously a very serious offense to bring a pistol onto a plane. It’s possible the fight could still take place as long as Guerrero is able to get it cleared up. It’s unknown if Guerrero told the airport security about the pistol ahead of time before attempting to enter plane or if it was found by medal detectors while he was attempting to board.

It’s unknown if he picked it up in New York while there to promote the fight or if he had it before coming to New York.

Guerrero was recently on the 700 Club, a Christian television program headed by Pat Robertson on the Christian Broadcasting Network in the United States.

Guerrero had said “I believe God put me here to humble Floyd Mayweather, and it is going to happen.”

Why Guerrero would need a gun is the big question.

What’s potentially sad about all of this is that Guerrero has been campaigning for a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. for two years now ever since Guerrero was a lightweight. Many people thought little of Guerrero’s chances to ever land a fight with Mayweather until he moved up to two divisions to 147 and beat Selcuk Aydin and Andre Berto by 12 round decisions.

Now, however, with his dream fight with Mayweather only two months away, Guerrero is arrested for possession of a pistol while trying to get onto a plane in New York. It would be so sad if this were to wipe out his fight with Mayweather.
