ward453434By Steven Ocallaghan: I wrote a piece in who I thought was the pound for pound king at the moment. My answer was Andre Ward. Ward for me has over the last 4 years has fought and beaten the better fighters than anybody else out there. Only my opinion.

Floyd Mayweather, arguably the world’s best fighter over the last 25 years is top on almost all of the polls but my basis is on recent fighting history and not past glories.

The main source of the argument is the amount of titles at different weights that Floyd has captured which is tremendous, but now Floyd flits between 2 weights now. Ok, still more than Andre Ward but not a great deal anymore.

Tons of fighters move a couple of divisions. As you get older your body fills out more which is why most fighters move up in weight class.

Floyd won his first title nearly 15 years ago and weighed 130lbs. If you had to ask Floyd if he could fight for another title at 130, the answer would be no, because he couldn’t make weight. Boxers move up in weight to accommodate their body size, so yes it’s a great achievement but he fought at the weight which suited his frame.

Andre Ward fights at the weight that suits him, probably down the line if he struggles to make weight he will move up, but for the time being he doesn’t need to. Super middleweight is the weight that suits his size so why should he fight in another division.

As I stated previously, it was only my opinion and it’s based on recent history. If you had to go on the last ten years then no question, it has to be Floyd.
