wlad324By Allan Fox: IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko’s April 6th fight may get pushed back into late April or May, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN. There’s no word about why the fight is being pushed back, but it’s likely due to Wladimir’s team being unable to decide on a suitable opponent for Wladimir’s optional defense. Odlanier Solis and Fres Oquendo’s names have been rumored as possible opponents, but in both cases team Klitschko ruled them out.

One possibility for Wladimir is former two division world champion Tomasz Adamek, who down an IBF box-off with Kubrat Pulev to determine the IBF mandatory for Wladimir. Adamek said it wasn’t a fight worthwhile because he can make more money fighting other fighters in Poland.

It would be somewhat sad for Pulev if Wladimir went ahead and selected Adamek anyway despite the fact that he ducked the IBF eliminator bout with Pulev. If Wladimir does that, then he’ll make the IBF eliminator bouts look meaningless. Sadly, it wouldn’t be all that surprising if Wladimir does this because he’s been really aking it easy for the past two years since his fight with David Haye.

It’s almost as if Wladimir has been selecting some of the weakest heavyweight contenders he can find lately in selecting 41-year-old Tony Thompson, 40-year-old Jean Marc Mormeck and Mariusz Wach.

The World Boxing Association ordered Wladimir to fight WBA heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin, which would have actually been a good fight, but Wladimir asked for permission to take an optional title defense. If he picks another easy opponent then you have to wonder why. He’s already had three straight easy fights, and it’s not as if he’s had a tough fight.

Manuel Charr, one of WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko’s recent stoppage victims, would like to be the one that faces Wladimir in April or May. However, that wouldn’t go over too well with Wladimir facing a guy that looked really terrible in getting stopped by Vitali.
