This is the time for Mayweather to silence critics again

floyd77By Babatis Banda: Floyd Mayweather Jnr 43-0-26 the undisputed P4P king is fighting Guerrero on May 4. Guerrero is tipped to cause an upset based on his good record and the fact that he is young, unbeaten for the last 6 years and coming off a decent win over Andre Berto, a worthy top welter weight.

His rugged and sometimes rough fighting style is expected to cause problems for the aging 36 year old Mayweather Jnr. What seems to stir hope both for Guerrero and those itching for the 1st Mayweather dent is the last Mayweather versus Cotto fight.

In that fight, we saw Floyd bleed from a broken nose, courtesy of Cotto’s hard sharp jab. It is the bleeding that brought some excitement for those that dislike Mayweather but other than that, there is very little to talk about because Floyd really plastered Cotto and he had the cleaner landing hard shots that also busted Cotto’s nose and marked his face worse.

All you need to look at is Cotto’s face at the end of that fight, his body language spoke volumes too. Fact is that, it is uncommon to see Floyd’s red stuff and when we do, it causes excitement in some quarters. This is proof of how good Mayweather’ s defence is.

This will not be the first time Floyd will be silencing his critics, he has always done that each time he steps in the ring. The fact that most people, based on the Cotto fight believe that Floyd is losing some edge, Floyd needs to put up a clinical performance to shake-up everybody again. In his younger days, Floyd used his legs a lot and it was interpreted as running. How can you run, but win convincingly at the same time?

Deliberately, and he said it before the fight that he would stand toe to toe with Sugar Shane Mosley and light him up, and he did. He also said in advance that he would be in Cotto’s pocket throughout the fight and he did exactly that. He beat up Cotto at his game.

I am looking at Floyd going back to his game. He is going to box Guerrero and frustrate him through-out the night. After the fight, the usual bad mouthing of Mayweather will surely start. Some people will still find something else to soothe the obvious bad feelings by even dwelling on issues not related to boxing.

The good thing is that, most people and even the so called haters agree that Guerrero is solid and has earned this fight with Mayweather. The fact still remains, hope is the word for Guerrero and haters alike, but the ring is Floyd’s office and Guerrero will need much more than a good performance and luck added together to evict him from his office .
I see this as the time for Floyd to silence the critics yet again.
