Stevenson vs. Boone: Adonis takes risky tune-up

stevenson56By Allan Fox: Adonis Stevenson (19-1, 16 KO’s) wants revenge against Darnell Boone (19-20-3, 8 KO’s) so badly that he’s willing to risk his mandatory title shot in order to try avenge his loss when he faces Boone on March 22nd at the Bell Centre, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Stevenson has one thing going in his favor for this rematch, and that’s time. It’s been three years since the 33-year-old Boone knocked Stevenson out in the 2nd round, and with that much time that has gone by there’s a chance that Boone has lost enough of his skills or power to where Stevenson can win this fight.

Boone has lost five fights since his win over Stevenson, and two of those losses have been early stoppage defeats. It could be that Boone has lost something since their fight three years ago, and maybe enough for Stevenson to win this time. If Boone hasn’t lost much from their fight, then Stevenson could be at a big risk of getting knocked out.

Stevenson fought like he didn’t respect Boone’s considerable power, and was just blasting away at him like he was a punching bag rather than someone that could hit back and hit back with power.

Boone caught Stevenson with a perfect right hand in between one of Stevenson’s heavy shots, and this put Stevenson down. The referee then quickly stopped the fight before Stevenson had the chance of trying to get with it and get back in the fight.

Stevenson has done well since his loss to Boone, and has won his last five fights, all by knockouts. However, this was less than dangerous opposition for Stevenson. Boone is flawed in a lot of ways, but with his huge power, it gives him a chance of winning this fight if he can land one of his big right hand shots.
