Should Marquez fight Pacquiao again?

marquez93By Imtiaz Ahmed: There is only one answer to this question and that is NO, this is because Juan Manuel Marquez has nothing left to prove, he may as well retire now. The only sensible reason as to why Marquez kept fighting was to avenge his losses against Manny Pacquiao, now that he has done that he can retire with his legacy that he has left behind.

Fighting Pacquiao was always a thorn in Marquez’s side since the first fight where in my view Marquez was robbed off his rightful victory. After a few fights later there was still no real decisive winner so they fought again, but this time Marquez finally knocked Pacquiao out cold and got the respect and the glory he deserves, after all the years off hard grafting, blood sweat and tears Marquez pulled off the improbable, he caught Pacquiao with a flush right hand and down he went.

There was no chance for Pacquiao to get up before the count. If Marquez retired now he would have the money behind him to retire, but this is not about the money this is about legacy, respect and principles. On Marquez’s path to beating Pacquiao he did not lose sight of them, if he retired now he would leave behind a great legacy off one of the greatest boxers of this generation, he did not forget his roots and where he came from on his path to glory and let nothing change his principles.

If the two were to come to the ring together one more time the only thing Marquez would get out of this would be a huge paycheque. In my view I believe that if they were to fight again Marquez would win again, he has perfected his fight plan, his health, his speed, his stamina and his power to a stage where Pacquiao cannot reach.

As always when these two legendary fighters meet it would be an electric encounter but Marquez would once again win if he is not robbed by the judges and the only way to be sure he isn’t is to add another knockout to Pacquiao’s record, but honestly how long can this go on it will keep going in circles, if they fight again and Pacquiao wins Marquez would want another fight and if that happens and Marquez wins Pacquiao would want another fighter and the tail goes on and on.

So it is at this point where we should call it a day as both fighters are past their prime and have no real competition left in the division apart from each other. They are to retire at some point so why not now when Marquez can leave a great legacy behind and with the respect he deserves.
