Saleta stops Golota in 6th
By Jim Dower: In a battle of aging heavyweights, Przemyslaw Saleta (44-7, 22 KO’) stopped Andre Golota (41-9-1, 33 KO’s) in the 6th round on Saturday night in a fight for the vacant Polish heavyweight title at the Ergo Arena, Plac Dwóch Miast 1, 80-344 Gdańsk, Gdansk, Poland.
Saleta flattened the 44-year-old Golota after unloading on him with a series of heavy shots. The fight was halted by referee Leszek Jankowiak. Both fighters had heavy swelling on their faces, especially Saleta.
Golota connected with a lot of punches in the fight, but his power wasn’t at the same level of Saleta. It just looked like Golota was throwing arm punches all night, and in the 6th he looked really tired. Saleta took advantage of that my turning up the pace and Golota couldn’t take it.
Golota was fighting for the first time in four years, whereas the 46-year-old Saleta hadn’t fought in seven years.
For Golota, this was his third straight defeat dating back to 2008. Golota hasn’t won a fight since beating Mike Mollo in January 2008.
