Rigondeaux ready to begin VADA testing for Donaire fight

rigon77By Chris Williams: Earlier today, there seemed to be panic on WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire’s facebook page due to Guillermo Rigondeaux having not begun the VADA testing that Donaire wants for the fight. Rigondeaux hadn’t left an address or a phone number to where he could be reached for his training camp so that the testing could be started.

Here’s what Donaire said on his facebook page had to say about Rigondeaux and the VADA testing:

“Rigo has not started testing in VADA bc he left no whereabouts addresses AND NO phone numbers to find him. All attempts from Top Rank and VADA have not resulted in Rigos whereabouts as of 2:20 pm PST Sat (2 days after presser).”

This is a little over the top don’t you think? Donaire seems to be stressing for nothing, and making a big deal out of this. Rigondeaux’s manager Gary Hyde has since cleared up the confusion with ESPN’s Michael Woods, saying “VADA has received the information which wasn’t on the agreement.”

As it turns out, Rigondeaux didn’t know where he was going to be staying for his training camp in terms of the house he’d be renting. He now has found out where he’ll be staying during the camp, and given the information to Hyde. Rigondeaux is reportedly ready to start testing whenever VADA wants to start the process.

The fight is still moving forward unless we get more drama that halts it from taking place. Donaire-Rigondeaux will be taking place on April 13th at the Radio City Music Hall in New York.

This by far is the toughest opponent that Donaire has ever faced before. He’s taken on limited guys like Vic Darchinyan, Jorge Arce and Toshiaki Nishioka, but Rigondeaux is heads and shoulders above those fighters in skills, and he’s not over the hill.
