Rees training hard for Broner

1262By Scott Gilfoid: With a week and a half to go before the Gavin Rees (37-1-1, 18 KO’s) vs. Adrien Broner (25-0, 21 KO’s) fight on HBO on February 16th, Rees seems to be working out big time for this to fight to try and pull off a big upset.

It doesn’t look like it’s going to happen, but he sure seems to think he’s going to win judging by some of his recent comments. For a fighter that is a HUGE underdog, Rees has been sounding a tad cocky, like it’s a sure thing he gets his hand raised at the end of the fight.

Broner isn’t training any harder than in his past fights, saying to HBO “[I’m] Running at least 3 miles every morning. On the treadmill not outside, it’s hard on your knees.”
Not surprisingly, Rees is doubling Broner’s running work, as if more is better, saying “Good 7 mile run around Central Park with @TheLockettMan chill now foe the day then do some filming tonight with @HBOboxing.”

Poor Rees, he doesn’t realize that his extra running isn’t going to change a thing in this fight. His fight with Broner is going to be like an appointment for a one-sided loss, and there’s no cancelling or altering this appointment, it’s set in stone. I just hope it’s too painful for the guy because Rees can still accomplish a lot on the domestic and Euro fight scene if he doesn’t take too much of a beating by Broner.

Rees can’t let pride get in the way of basic logic for when he realizes that he’s over his head in this fight. At what point will Rees understand that he doesn’t have the skills to compete with Broner? It’s going to be interesting to see. Sometimes Broner doesn’t look really motivated to get it over with his opponents.

If you look at his fights with Antonio DeMarco and Daniel Ponce De Leon, Broner just seemed interested in getting rounds in while slowly, methodically breaking them down with hard jabs, right hands and left hooks. Those guys weren’t able to compete with him, so he just boxed them. If Broner does this with Rees, then the punishment will likely last a long time. I just hope Rees’ trainer does the right thing by throwing in the towel early so that Rees doesn’t get too beat
